Responsible Investment & Social Responsibility

Boston Private Wealth is committed to investing responsibly and acting as a responsible corporate citizen.

Responsible investing is foundational to our culture, with Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factors incorporated in our approval and review process for our investment strategies, engagement with fund managers and direct investments we recommend to our clients. We have a comprehensive scorecard for our managers’ ESG awareness and policy.

We believe that ESG will continue to be a growing aspect of investment management as investors, with our help as their advisers, increasing demand that their capital is invested ethically and responsibly.

We now employ a “screened out” process for new managers, which means they must score in the top quartile with regard to ESG policies. This results in a high ESG focus in client drill down portfolios.

ESG has been an increasing focus for Boston in the last five years. We have an obligation to you to continue to evolve our responsible investment processes and capabilities to ensure they consistently meet the highest of standards.

As well as holding all investment managers to account with respect to sound ESG practices, we seek to conduct our own business operations with the utmost respect for the environment, to be socially minded and adhere to a robust and transparent governance framework.

We strive to set the highest standards for corporate social responsibility with regards to our day-to-day operations and relationships with clients, employees, service providers and the wider community.

Business operations

From an environmental perspective, we pay carbon credits for all business travel flights.

We also purchase “green” office stationery products where possible, and support recycling initiatives.

As a business, we support the ongoing training and education of employees.

We also encourage wellness and participation in community and/ or charitable causes.

We have always had a strict policy of putting client interests ahead of our own. We have a ZERO threshold for ANY “soft dollar” payments.

Helping Causes Relevant to our People

Every year, Boston makes donations to specific charitable groups on behalf of our clients and employees. Our aim is for this to reach 2% of profit in 2025.

Our selections are based on relevance to our employees and often reflect life experiences and encounters. Therefore, recipients will change over time, reflecting the conversations and circumstances of our employees and their families.  In recent years, some of the recipient groups have included:

The Smith Family www.thesmithfamily.com.au

The Red Cross www.redcross.org.au

The Salvation Army www.salvationarmy.org.au

The Peter MacAllum Cancer Foundation www.foundation.petermac.org

QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institure www.fqimrberghofer.edu.au

In the wake of the 2019-2020 Australian bushfires, Boston contributed to Regional Bush Fire Volunteers in each of the states where we have clients located.

Our staff maintain active membership with Rotary Club (Sanctuary Cove), and we have for many years supported The School of St Jude  www.schoolofstjude.org
